At a time when downsizing is the trend in the manufacturing industry, a Charlotte company is expanding. Spartan Motors, a custom chassis maker, says it will spend $7.3 million to grow its operations, a move that will create 415 jobs soon in the future and possibly another 641 sometime down the road
Charlotte Mayor Ken Wirt says the expansion comes at a good time for the city. Charlotte City Manager Dennis Stark says Spartan Motors has experienced growth in recent years and the city is better economically because of it.
The expansion is possible thanks to tax credits through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
