DETROIT (AP) -- An 82-year-old Detroit man says he fended off a home intruder by hitting him on the head with a hammer.
George Bradford described what happened to TV stations WJBK and WXYZ, saying he was awakened Sunday morning by the screams of his daughter and granddaughter. A man got in through a window of the family's duplex, and Bradford says he hit him after he refused to leave.
Detroit police arrived to find a 33-year-old with blood dripping from his head. He was treated at the scene and taken into custody.
The suspect's name wasn't immediately released by police.
Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson tells the Detroit Free Press that the 82-year-old was defending himself and isn't expected to face charges.
Bradford's daughter Trina Bradford says she has a "very good dad."
