General Motors begins it's layoffs that were announced earlier this year. A spokesperson for the company says Monday about 400 will be jobless.
The layoffs will include about 550 from U.A.W. local 602 and between 300 to 400 from U.A.W. local 652.
Art Luna, U.A.W. President of Local 602, says his layoffs will be staggered over the next four weeks ranging from 100 to up to 200 a week.
When the July two-week shutdown occurs, however, Luna says the U.A.W. will meet with company officials to see if more cuts or worker recalls will be needed.
