The Walter French Academy has been on probation from its authorizing charter school agent, Central Michigan University, since March.

Last week, the university called it quits and pulled the contract. At a special meeting Tuesday, the academy's Board of Directors announced what it plans to do to keep the school open.

The Lansing School District, Saginaw Valley State University, Grand Valley State University and Bay Mills have all been contacted to sponsor the school next year. Now, the board waits for a response.

Ted Beck, Walter French Board President, says he hopes it's positive and quick.

Meantime, three new consultants have been appointed to take over where some say CMU left off. Walter French's contract will CMU officially ends June 30, the board says it hopes to have a new sponsor in place by that date.
