State legislators proposed a bill aiming to help military families make ends meet.
The bill would fund the Michigan Military Fund. That fund would provide up to $2,000 for families to pay bills and other emergency expenses while their significant other may have taken a paycut due to military service.
The money for the fund would come from taxpayer donations that would be available on 2005 income tax forms.
The bill is set to go to conference, but its architects say it could be signed into law as early as this summer.
