Gas Prices May Affect Memorial Day Travel

Memorial Day weekend is the official start of the summer travel season and gas prices may have affect some people's travel plans.

Bill McCollough, AAA Branch Manger, says an estimated one million people are still expected to hit the road. The top travel destination by car, in state, is Mackinaw City.

Driving the approximately 500 miles round trip, in a full sized sedan, last year cost about $36.00. This year, with gas more than $2.00 a gallon, that same trip will cost about $16.00 dollars more.

Even though gas will cost more, AAA says food and lodging will cost less, which will even out the total of your trip. Because of that, AAA expects a good summer travel season.
