No Charges For Trucker Who Hit Man in Wheelchair

No criminal charges will be filed against a truck driver who accidentally pushed a 21-year-old Kalamazoo-area man in his wheelchair down a road at 50 miles an hour.
That's the decision of Van Burean County Prosecutor Juris Kaps.
The semitractor hit Ben Carpenter's wheelchair last week as he was trying to cross the Red Arrow Highway in front of the stopped rig at an intersection.
The 52-year-old driver didn't see Carpenter and started pulling out.
The rig pushed up against the wheelchair -- which turned forward with its handles stuck in the grille.
The truck pushed the wheelchair -- with Carpenter strapped inside -- for at least a couple of miles down the highway until stopping.
