During a celebration at the State Capitol Monday, Governor Jennifer Granholm declared June 11th "LaKisha Jones Day." The 27-year-old Flint native finished fourth in Fox's American Idol.
"It's a beautiful feeling to be here and to share it with my mom. And my daughter to be able to see her mom's dream finally come true," Jones told reporters before the celebration started.
Jones sang two songs, both of which she performed on American Idol. She sang "And I'm Telling You" from the film "Dreamgirls" and "God Bless the Child."
Jones leaves Michigan Tuesday to begin rehearsals for the American Idol tour. She and the other contestants will be at the Palace of Auburn Hills Sunday August 12th.
