Matt Soper died doing what he loved. His family said he was planning on making the military his career.

A sergeant with the Michigan Army National Guard's 1461st Transportation Company, Matt was on his second tour in the Middle East. He job was dangerous; he was the guy with the gun on top of the tank.

"To see someone that proud, to see someone who believed in what he was doing, it made me want to sign," says Matt's younger brother Alex. Alex did sign, he joined the Army Reserve. "He was the exact reason I joined," Alex says.

Matt was one of eight children. He was scheduled to leave Iraq in August. "He wanted to go to Alaska with a buddy he met in Iraq. They were going to get stationed there and go fishing and hunting when they had free time," says Alex.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
