A woman is dead and part of a building badly damaged after a late night fire near Brooklyn in southern Jackson County. It happened around 12:00 a.m. Sunday at Wampler Lake Storage on Wampler Lake Road.
Sgt. Cathy Fitzgerald of the Michigan State Police Jackson Post says the investigation continues into the cause and origin of the fire.
Consumers Energy confirms that there was a power outage on Wampler Lake Road Saturday night. It started around 5:00 p.m. after a large tree fell on a substation. Power was restored around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, shortly after the fire had started at Wampler Lake Storage.
Witnesses have told News Ten they believe there is some kind of apartment or living area at Wampler Lake Storage and the woman that died last night was living there. Police are not confirming that and the responding fire department declined to comment.
The investigation is expected to continue Monday morning.
