Maria Hernandez, 38, is dead after falling from a tenth floor apartment balcony Friday morning. Police are calling it suspicious.
It happened around 2:00 a.m. at the Capitol Commons senior living apartment complex on South Pine Street. When police arrived, Hernandez was already dead and police are calling it suspicious because of how it happened even though they say they don't have any evidence suggesting she was pushed. Det. Sgt. Noel Garcia, of the Lansing Police Department, says neighbors and witnesses have been questioned and preliminary autopsy reports don't show any sign of assault. An official cause of death will be released when the medical examiner is finished with the final report.
Late Friday afternoon, Ricardo Rios was arraigned on assault charges stemming from an alleged March attack on Hernandez. Rios and Hernandez lived together at Capitol Commons. Police won't say if they plan to question him in her death, but he remains behind bars on $20,000 bond.
