Charlotte Middle School Opens New Facility

Some Charlotte students are actually excited for school to start. Saturday, Charlotte Middle School administrators held an open house to show off the nearly $28 million facility to incoming students.

The new building is equipped with four state-of-the-art computer labs and more than 200 computers. The middle school hallways are color-coated as part of an effort to separate fifth graders from eighth graders.

Teachers' classrooms have collapsible walls that allow them to expand the size of their classrooms or combine teaching efforts with other neighboring teachers.

The building is nearly 200,000 square feet. Taxpayers will start by paying an additional $5 million each year, but that number may be reduced over the next 30 years as the building is paid off.

Administrators say they hope to open up the building to the community for civic organizations, meetings and activities.
