MEAP scores for fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth graders across the state are in, and administrators are beginning to digest this wealth of information.
Nineteen of Lansing's 29 elementary schools stayed the same or improved in reading and writing, and four of the six middle schools did the same.
The biggest strides were made by eighth graders in math, increasing the number of those students who met or exceeded state standards by 18 percent.
On the other hand, writing scores for seventh graders took a hit, with the number of those kids meeting or exceeding state standards falling by 16 percent.
Lansing school officials say their focus continues to be literacy.
