MSU Students React to President McPherson's Resignation

Some wonder if Michigan State University President Peter McPherson should have waited for a better time or a better place to announce his resignation, but a number of MSU graduates say his timing couldn't have been better.

McPherson made the announcement Friday in front of thousands of students getting ready to graduate at MSU's convocation.

Matthew Gabbert, an MSU graduate, says it was fitting. Students are leaving, and now so is the university's president.

Phil Dwyer, another MSU Graduate, says he doesn't understand why the announcement came when it did, but he feels it's his prerogative and he respects McPherson's decision.

Maggie Cheung, also an MSU graduate, says she was shocked, but it didn't ruin her special day.

McPherson will officially step down as President of MSU on January 1, 2005.
