The number of people who need hip replacement is expected to double within the next 15 years. That means hundreds of thousands will undergo surgery each year.
Doctors say regular surgery could take months of painful therapy.
But now, a new technique that involves smaller incisions and less painful trauma is being introduced to patients. It has some patients getting back to work in about a week as opposed to 12 weeks.
The surgery has been so successful in fact doctors hope to start using it as an outpatient procedure within the next 12 months.
