Michigan Turbine Blowback
Thumb-area residents upset with loud wind turbines

Dozens of Thumb-area residents say their lives have been changed for the worse by noisy, energy-producing wind turbines and recommended that future installations be kept far away from homes.
Residents who live near the area's 78 turbines also said Monday during a public meeting before the Public Service Commission in Lansing that wind energy advocates in Michigan have been unconcerned about health issues and property setbacks.
The commission is expected to make recommendations about the number of wind energy zones and whether the state should establish setback requirements and noise limits. Currently, those decisions are made locally.
The Detroit Free Press says a state wind board has recommended up to 4,000 turbines in four regions, including 2,800 in the Thumb.
