A few local tenants are being kicked out of their apartments. The Lansing Office of Code Compliance declared the Vanderbilt Court Apartments on West Cavanaugh Street and unsafe place to live.
The complexes at 1001 and 1003 West Cavanaugh Road have had several violations against them over the past few years. The landlord repaired some of the problems - which include hazardous plumbing, broken windows and broken smoke detectors - over the years, and now, he has until Aug. 1 to repair sewage problems and restore hot water to the complex.
The city required the tenants to evacuate their apartments by 5:00 p.m. Monday. Residents say they would like to be reimbursed for any expenses they incur.
The landlord and leasing agents were did not make themselves available for comment.
