It soon may cost more to camp at state forest campgrounds.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries next week will decide on a proposal to boost nightly fees at the state's rustic campgrounds from $10 to $15. The higher fees would take effect May 14.
The state says Michigan's 143 forest campgrounds aren't bringing in enough revenue to cover their operation and maintenance costs.
Unlike state park campgrounds, forest campgrounds are more rustic. They have vault toilets and no electrical hookups.
