A man fatally shot a woman and two boys before killing himself in what police described Thursday as a domestic violence situation.
The four bodies were discovered at 12:30 a.m. Thursday in an upstairs bedroom of a home while police were responding to a call regarding a missing persons investigation, officers said.
The names of the victims and the suspect were not being released pending autopsies scheduled to be conducted Friday in Grand Rapids, said Kalamazoo police Deputy Chief Michael McCaw.
Police cordoned off the street on either side of the home, a two-story green-and white residence.
Neighbor Sue Nichols, 52, said a woman, her boyfriend and two young boys were renting a house where the bodies were found. They moved in about a month ago, she said. They hadn't been around long enough for Nichols to have met them, although she sometimes saw the younger boy playing in his yard.
Nichols said most of her neighbors are longtime residents of the older, working-class neighborhood near downtown.
"We all know each other," said Nichols, who has lived in her home for about 10 years. "They were the only new people here."
