A Detroit-area animal shelter that took in about 100 Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes this summer following a hoarding case is trying to find homes for cats and kittens.
The group Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter plans to hold the "Kitty Spectacular" event on Saturday. It's at the Dearborn Animal Shelter training facility at 2621 S. Telegraph Road.
Up to 25 cats and kittens will be available for quick adoption.
The shelter has been crowded with animals. Police in July found a man with more than 100 live dogs and 150 dead ones in his home. In August, the shelter took in 25 cats and a dog from another house.
Shelter spokeswoman Sandra Boulton says 80 percent of the rescued dogs from the hoarding case have since been adopted.
