LANSING - Lansing Police have suspended one of their officer for misconduct involving a taser. Officer Ryan Smith is suspended for 2 weeks without pay, following an investigation into an allegation that he used inappropriate force. A statement released by the police department says that the 2 week suspension is the maximum penalty less than termination that may be issued to an officer per the department's discipline policy.
Details about the incident that led to the suspension are being released by Chief Mark Alley later this afternoon. The police statement says, that
although the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office concluded there was no criminal wrongdoing by Officer Smith, an LPD internal investigation concluded that Officer Smith acted outside policies and procedures of the department.
Officer Smith has been on the Lansing police force for over 2 years. He is assigned to the South Precinct.
