KALAMAZOO -- A new arena may be in downtown Kalamazoo's future.
The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners is holding a special meeting Wednesday evening to discuss the proposed $81.2 million facility.
Commissioners will review a report prepared by a committee appointed to study the feasibility of building and operating the planned 6,800-seat arena.
Western Michigan University's men's basketball and hockey teams and minor league hockey's Kalamazoo Wings would likely play their home games there.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that the work group has been estimating construction and operating costs, and how much revenue the arena could be expected to generate.
A group advocating for the arena supports a countywide restaurant and hotel tax.
