Some 13-thousand National Guard troops from Michigan and three other states are receiving notice to prepare for possible deployment to Iraq.
The orders affect the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Ohio, along with Guard units based in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Indiana.
The 37th is based in Columbus and has 36-hundred members: 24-hundred from Ohio and 12-hundred from Michigan.
Many have been deployed once before -- to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Turkey and Europe.
The Defense Department says it won't be connected to the recent military build-up to bolster security in Iraq. The units will serve as replacements in regular unit rotation.
Officials say whether they deploy will depend on conditions in Iraq.
