The State of Michigan was hoping to raise over $75,000 at an auction featuring items left in safety deposit boxes around the state.

Under state law after no one claims the items, they revert to state ownership. The items for sale included watches, baseball cards, necklaces and other personal items.

However the money raised from the more than 100 bidders will not go into state services. Instead the money will go into an escrow account just in case someone can prove that they owned the item.

If someone could prove that they owned the item, they would get the money raised at the auction.
