Clinton County Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty

The Flag is flying at half mast outside of the Clinton County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Perry Filmore, an eight year veteran, died early Saturday morning responding to a call for assistance from another deputy.

Sheriff Wayne kangas says Filmore apparently was traveling very fast and may have lost control of his vehicle. Filmore crashed his patrol car into the basement of a home on South Grange Road in Westphalia Township. The couple who owns the home was inside at the time, police say they are recovering from minor injuries. Deputy Perry Filmore, 37, leaves behind a wife.

The last officer killed in the line of duty here in mid-Michigan was Gary Priess. In January of 2000, Priess was struck by a passing tractor trailer duirng a routine traffice stop on US-27. Four years earlier,while responding to a call, Sgt. Paul Lawrence Cole of the Ingham County Sheriff's Department died after swerving to miss a herd of deer.
