(Detroit-AP) -- Health officials say the number of people over 50 living with HIV has doubled in Michigan over the past five years.
Officials say almost 24-hundred elderly people are infected. They say the infections are rising because many elderly don't think they're at risk.
But even as their numbers swell, advocates say AIDS awareness hasn't because of a stigma about discussing sex with seniors. They say the few prevention programs aimed at the elderly have had mixed results.
Some health care providers who realize this say they're becoming more assertive in discussing the risks with their older patients.
