Spring Break Activities

Spring Break doesn't mean all Lansing schools will be idle during the week of April 5.

Several schools will be open from Monday, April 5, through Thursday, April 8, to offer activities through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program. The 21st Century program, paid for through a federal grant, provides for safe recreational and educational activities during times when class is not in session.

Walnut Elementary School, 1012 N. Walnut Street: Students from all five elementary 21st Century schools are invited to participate in programs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Monday, April 5 through Thursday April 8. A variety of activities are scheduled at Walnut on Monday, with field trips scheduled on Tuesday (ice skating at the Summit), Wednesday (bowling at Holiday lanes), and Thursday (recreation and swimming at Gardner Middle School)

Dwight Rich Middle School, 2600 Hampden Dr: Open Gym and games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 5, Tuesday April 6 and Thursday, April 8. On Wednesday, April 7, students will travel to Chicago between 7 a.m. and 12 midnight. The trip is by invitation only.

Gardner Middle School, 333 Dahlia Drive: A variety of activities between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday April 5 through Thursday April 8, including swimming, pool instruction and tournaments, art, break dancing, basketball, guitar lessons, computers, junior jeopardy, and board games.

Riddle Middle Magnet School for the Visual and performing arts, 221 Huron St: Monday, April 5, through Thursday April 8 board games and talent show practice are scheduled from 12 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 5. Bowling at Royal Scott and pizza at DeLuca's are set on Tuesday April 6. (Bus leaves at 11:40 a.m. and returns at 4:40 p.m.) A trip to Turkeyville Dinner Theatre in Marshal is scheduled on Wednesday, April 7 (Bus leaves at 10:45 a.m. and returns at 5:15 p.m.) Lunch at Ryans restaurant and a trip to Edru skating rink in Holt are set on Thursday, April 8 (Bus leaves at 12:15 p.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m.)

Otto Middle school, 504 E. Thomas Street,: Pattengill and Otto students are invited to attend activities at Otto between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. On Monday, April 5, students will take a field trip to Holiday lanes, with activities at the school on Tuesday, April 6 a movie and pizza party on Wednesday April 7, and opening swimming and sub party on Thursday, April 8.

Magnet Center for Language, culture and communication arts. 221 Huron St.: Open gym on Monday April 5; Tuesday April 6 and Thursday April 8 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesday, April 7, CLCCA students join Dwight Rich on a Chicago trip between 7 a.m. and 12 a.m.
