A kick-off of construction event for the Delta Township Assembly Plant was held at the Lansing Regional Stamping Plant.
The governor, city and state leaders, and General Motors and UAW officials welcomed the start of construction for the plant. GM is investing more than $800 million in the project.
The plant will house 2,500 workers on three shifts when fully staffed, and GM officials say it will use the latest technologies and be extremely flexible.
There has yet to be a product announcement for Delta. Production is scheduled to start in mid to late summer of 2006.
