Mid-Michigan National Guard Soldiers Honored

The guards were part of a group sent to secure the Pentagon following the terrorist attacks on 9-11. Company Commander Joseph Sullivan said he never thought they'd be at the nation's capital protecting it. Specialist John Schram said reality didn't strike until they got there.

The guards have been back for about a year now and each soldier has been given six awards for their service. The unit, as a whole, received three for its participation. Employers of the deployed soldiers were also honored along with friends and family. Congressman Mike Rogers personally thanked the families for being patriots and standing by their loved ones and their country.
