Six workers at a hotel construction site in West Michigan have been injured after a scaffold collapsed.
The collapse was reported about 11:30 a.m. Friday in Emmett Township, east of Kalamazoo.
Emmett Public Safety Director Mike Olson tells the Battle Creek Enquirer that the injuries included broken and dislocated bones and open injuries. The victims were being treated at West Michigan hospitals.
The workers were trapped beneath the scaffold.
Strong winds are believed to have caused the scaffold to tip over. It ended up on its side next to the four-story building.
Township officials approved plans for the hotel in 2009. It is expected to open this spring.
