Students call her a friendly, athletic girl who everyone knew at school.

"She was a really nice girl," said Potterville High School Sophomore Tyler Meister.

But 17-year-old Tabitha Stanton's life was cut short Saturday.

"It's really hard to lose somebody like that," Meister said.

Meister says she was also on the volleyball team and was on her way back from a volleyball tournament with three other girls from the high school Saturday, but Stanton never made it home.

"It's just really scary to think that somebody that nice was just dead," Meister said.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon on 1-96 between Waverly and Creyts when a pickup truck headed Westbound lost control and sideswiped the vehicle that Stanton was a back seat passenger in.

"And then it went down into the median and rolled several times, ejecting three people," said Eaton County Sheriff Mike Raines

One of those people was Stanton, Raines says the loss has devastated such a close-knit community.

"I knew some of the people that were involved, the whole community knows a lot of the people, and it hits home," Raines said.

School administrators and counselors met at Potterville High School on Sunday to discuss how they would manage such a tragic situation when student return on Monday.

The Potterville Superintendent says there will be counselors, pastors and clergy for students on Monday who are dealing with the loss. In the meantime time students have already created a memorial page on Facebook.

Students write "Tabi you were truly an amazing and beautiful young lady and you will be missed dearly, you are now a beautiful angel may you rest in peace."
