Teachers in Jackson have voted to accept the district's two-year contract offer. That's after voting on the contract for the second time.
Of the 361 teachers who have voted, 252 said yes, and 109 voted no. The Jackson Board of Education will now vote on the tentative agreement. Jackson teachers educate some seven thousand students in the district.
They have been working without a contract since August of 2002. Teachers say negotiations lasted much longer than they would have liked. Sticking points surround insurance and pay raises.
Union leaders for the Jackson Education Association say irregularities in the voting process last Friday forced them to hold another vote. The union represents about 450 teachers throughout the district.
