School districts are actively recruiting new students under the state's schools of choice program.
School districts are wasting no time with their campaigns. Billboards and other advertisements are everywhere throughout East Lansing and Lansing.
Schools of choice districts allow students outside the districts to apply for enrollment in their schools. East Lansing had 235 new students join the district last year and currently have 170 available slots open. Lansing, on the other hand, has no goal in terms of slots to fill.
Lansing schools say they are focusing on magnet schools. Both districts will be wrapping up their campaigns by the end of July.
