Union Leaders for General Motors now have new insight into the impending layoffs for the Lansing Car Assembly Plant. But they still don't know how long the layoffs will last.
Union leaders now have concrete numbers for layoffs at the LCA Plant scheduled for Jan. 5.
A total of 870 production workers and 80 skilled trade workers will be laid off at the body plant and chassis sides of the plant. Union leaders say workers will be phased out in a two week period starting January 5th.
UAW Local 602 President Art Luna is calling the layoffs indefinite, but believes some of the skilled trade workers will go into a jobs bank where they will continue to draw a paycheck.
GM officials say layoffs were necessary based on their market forecasts.
