Cigarette Tax
A cigarette tax hike of 50 cents per pack has some smokers thinking twice about continuing the habit.
A random polling of stores in the area shows a carton of premium cigarettes costs $37.99 at the Admiral Gas station on Cedar in Lansing, $38.99 at the Rite Aid on Cedar, and $41.50 at the Campus Mobile Service on Harrison in East Lansing.
And these prices are without the tax increase added on.
Smokers have another choice besides going to a local store, they can go online. Prices for cartons online range from $28.99 to $31.49.
The Internet provides a variety of Web sites offering cheaper prices.
