Bernero Says is the Perfect Location for Speech

By Monday night more than 300 people are expected to file into in Lansing for Mayor Virg Bernero's State of the City address.

"Part of the reason why we're having the speech at ACD.Net, which is a high-tech company, is to highlight the point that businesses are investing in the city," Bernero said.

That's a message he wants the citizens to hear loud and clear.

"It's important for us to get the word out that people are investing in Lansing, people believe in Lansing and now we've got to take that to the next step."

He says it's companies like that will help us take that next step by propelling the city into the future, creating new jobs and strengthening Lansing's tax base. The company has created Michigan's largest data center for secure storage of corporate information. It's all part of the mayor's plan to diversify the city's economy.

"We are reinventing ourselves."

But he warns that doesn't mean forgetting Lansing's roots in manufacturing. In fact, Mayor Bernero says Mid-Michigan's General Motors plants are crucial to keeping the city a global leader in the automotive industry.

"This is a global economy. Change is upon us. The greatest challenge we have as leaders is to harness that change."
