Lansing's Third Murder Investigation of the Year

By  |

The yellow police tape and blood-soaked snow were tell-tale signs of murder, on the corner of St. Joseph Street and Butler Boulevard, outside building 601 in Capital Commons apartments.

Lansing Police Department Detective Sergeant Joseph Dionise says, "They found a 26 year old Lansing female lying in front of the apartment complex."

It all happened around 1:40am Sunday morning, after the LPD responded to a disturbance call of shots fired.

"LFD was called and rendered aid, and she was pronounced [dead] enroute to the hospital."

"I never head any shots fired, but on a Saturday night at 1:30, 2:30 in the morning, there's always people running around."

Bill Nordeen lives adjacent to the building where the young woman was found.

"I was asleep in bed and heard someone ring my buzzer. I didn't know who they were. So I went over and looked out the window, and I saw someone banging on the window downstairs."

Currently the murdered woman's name is not being released. And Det. Sgt. Dionise says a suspect has not yet been identified.

"It's still very early on in the investigation. We're interviewing witnesses, family members to find out where she was last at."

Three weeks into January, and Lansing has its third murder of the new year.
