Marshal Mascot Merry-Go-Round

In February, Marshall High School decided to retire its mascot, the redskin. The school then adopted the mascot, the red hawk.

But after the change, the community voted out four board members, which were supporting the name change, and reclaimed the older more offensive mascot.

In response to this protesters like Linda Cypret-Kilbourne demanded the school once again change its mind.

Cypret-Kilbourne says she has Native American ancestry and has two daughters attending Marshall High.

She says the name is offensive and it should remain the Marshall Red Hawks.

Others claim that the history of the school mascot is too valuable to neglect and claim that to the school the name "Redskin" emphasizes strength and courage.
