Mid-Michigan City Leaders Support State Tax Increase

Lansing Mayor Virg Benero and his counterpart in East Lansing have endorsed placing a sales tax on services such as haircuts and manicure. In addition Sam Singh says the sales tax rate should be cut from six percent at the same time.

Also endorsing a tax increase is the former Mayor of Lansing David Hollister who says the state's social safety net is torn and more taxes are needed to repair it. "This is legacy time for the governor," suggests Hollister.

The governor has asked a special panel to make recommendations on what should be done to address the red ink problem.
