Just days into the new year, Lansing Police are already investigating two stabbing deaths: one, an 18-year-old Morrice man; the other, a 20-year-old Lansing man. And as of Saturday night, Det. Sgt. Dave Emmons says police have no suspects.
"Both incidents appear to be isolated," he says.
The first occurred around 5 p.m. Friday. Eighteen-year-old Kurt Coffey from Morrice was stabbed to death outside a residence on the 900 block of Lapeer Street. The second stabbing happened on the 100 block of South Larch Street a little after 11 p.m. The second victim's name has not yet been released.
Emmons says police are still looking into the motives in both cases but "neither case appears to be related and neither case appears to be random."
According to Emmons, Larch and Lapeer streets are high call-volume areas, but he doesn't think these crimes will set the tone for 2007.
Police aren't releasing much about who they're looking for, but they did mention they are searching for men. They're also seeking a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in either green or silver in connection with the Larch Street murder.
If you have any information about either stabbing, call the Lansing Police at 517-483-4600.
