Gov. Jennifer Granholm is telling key legislative leaders that she wants to slice the higher education budget by six-percent which comes on top of the 10-percent Michigan State University and the state's 14 other schools got last year.

The governor is outlining her blue print for reducing a state deficit of nearly $930 million. Granholm's decision comes on the heels of her 11 town hall meetings where there did not appear to be as much support for higher ed cuts as there were last year.

In addition the Granholm blue print does not include any tax increases nor does she embrace a freeze on the income tax rollback slated for January. However she says that remains on the table.
