A bitter battle over rabbits is now over in Leoni Township. One neighbor doesn't like it, but a Grass Lake couple can keep its show rabbits.
Margaret Stewart has 35 show rabbits she keeps caged in a tidy barn outside of her home. One neighbor alleges she lets them run wild and recently, she received a letter saying she had violated a Leoni Township ordinance. She had until January 10 to remove them or face a fine.
After getting no response and nothing resolved, Stewart and her supporters went to the Leoni Township board meeting Wednesday. Township Supervisor Jim Phelps ended the controversy saying no ordinance had been violated. Stewart can keep her bunnies at her home.
