A federal judge has rejected a Michigan High School Athletic Association plan to change the seasons of golf, tennis, soccer, and swimming and diving. He says it fails to create scheduling equity among the state's girls and boy's teams.

The judge gave the MHSAA until Oct. 30 to choose from three scheduling options, one, which would combine all sports seasons so both boys and girl's teams play at the same time of the year.

The other two choices would involve switching the girl's basketball and volleyball seasons. Under the MHSAA original plan, the schedules for girl's basketball and volleyball would not have been switched.

Instead, state tournaments would have been realigned to change the seasons of golf, tennis, soccer, and swimming and diving.

Officials from the MHSAA say they will appeal the decision in the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. No date has been set for the appeal.
