3 a.m. Thursday morning -- the end of the line for the second suspect in Wednesday night's deadly shooting.
"We were able to negotiate him out of the [Brookshire] apartment [in Lansing]," said Lt. Judy Horning of the Lansing Police Department. "And our tactical team cleared the apartment."
The deadly scene began at the intersections of Rayborn and Malibu streets. The victim was allegedly in a red Alero with the two suspects when he was shot. But when the police arrived shortly thereafter, they found no signs of the victim or the suspects.
Then a big break: A witness describes the getaway car to the police.
"One of our officers spotted a red Alero in the area of Moores River Park and Martin Luther King," Horning said. "The occupants fled the vehicle, and an officer caught the driver of the car and he was arrested."
One suspect down by 8:15 p.m., just minutes after the shooting. Then came another call from a vigilant witness: This one with the whereabouts of the victim: Frances Park, just minutes from where the shooting took place.
Police found the victim there: 28 years old, a Lansing man, shot to death and dropped in the park. The police now had their victim, the getaway car and getaway driver suspect; 8:30 p.m., and one link remaining in the chain: the shooter.
He was caught about seven hours later. Three Lansing men, all in their 20's; one dead and two under arrest.
The latter two were thanks to some efficient police work.
"This was excellent police work," Horning said. "We had three incidents going on, and in a very short period of time, our officers were able to determine that it was really one incident."
With the help of some vigilant witnesses.
"It's very helpful," Horning said, "for people to get involved in helping us to solve crime."
