Future Of Detroit Children's Museum In Question

DETROIT (AP) -- The future of the Detroit Children's Museum is in question after the city's school district said it would cut funding.
The Detroit Free Press reports the district's contribution represents about half of the museum's $980,000 operating budget.
Museum staffers tell The Detroit News they anticipate being out of work Aug. 7, the day after summer programming ends.
Detroit Public Schools spokesman Steve Wasko says the district wants to find other ways to keep the doors open.
The Detroit Children's Museum opened in 1917 as a joint operation between DPS and the Museum of Art, but has been operating under the school district alone since 1925.
Last year, the museum loaned 30,000 exhibits and artifacts to 81 schools and is a popular field trip destination.
