End of the Line in Elsie

Lear Corp. in Elsie once employed nearly 900, but those jobs have gradually left the state over the years.

The final layoff Friday meant good-bye for nearly all of approximately 265 who remain at the power seat facility. A handful of employees will remain to get the plant ready to close.

The jobs are going to Mexico.

The village of Elsie worries what the closure may mean for them. Their village president Scott Carie estimates a tax revenue loss of $42,000 and a loss of $24,000 in water and sewer payments. Several businesses have already closed in the small downtown area.
