Governor Signs "Promise" Legislation

Every Michigan student can count on $4000 dollars for higher education.

Governor Jennifer Granholm signed the Michigan Promise Scholarship into legislation Thursday.

High school students in a district near Flint were there.

Under the Michigan Promise, students who do well on statewide standardized tests will get $1000 dollars at the beginning of their freshman year and the same amount at the beginning of their sophomore year.

Once they successfully complete two years of college or training, they will receive $2000 dollars more.

Students who don't get the money up front can tap the entire $4000 dollars after two years.
