HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) -- Thunderstorms that hit Michigan earlier this month caused more than $30 million in damage in Ottawa County in southwest Michigan.
Officials estimate the storms caused $25.9 million in damage to private property and $4.4 million in damage to public property.
Flooding last weekend in the Holland area followed heavy rain and forced authorities to declare a local state of emergency.
Fifty miles to the northeast in Ionia, tow trucks have begun removing the first of hundreds of vehicles that were stranded at the county fairgrounds after last weekend's flooding. The recovery operation is expected to take several more days.
