Ingham County police officers patrolled Willoughby Road on foot Friday as they looked for 20-year-old Jeffrey Husband. They say he's a person of interest in the early Friday morning shooting death of 18-year-old Holt resident Vanessa Pruitt.

"We're following up on a number of possible locations for Mr. Husband so we can question him," says Ingham County Undersheriff Matthew Myers.

Myers says Pruitt was shot around 4:30 a.m. Friday in her apartment at the South Square Apartment Complex on Aurelius Road in Holt. He says Pruitt's older sister was shot as well but only sustained minor injuries.

"[The sister] was the one who left the apartment and contacted a neighbor nearby. That's when we were called to come to the scene," Myers says.

Police say Pruitt and Husband may have had a relationship. Pruitt had at least one child, Myers says, but police aren't sure if the child Husband's. Husband does have family in the area, and police are hoping they'll help lead them to Husband for questioning.

"Clearly what we want to avoid is anyone else getting injured," says Myers.

Myers says this is the third homicide in Delhi Township this year. Police suspect this to be a domestic crime; they doubt drugs played a part.

Police are asking anyone with information on this apparent murder or the whereabouts of Husband to call the Ingham County Sheriff's Department at 517-676-2431.
