Thursday was Jerry Fisher’s second Independence Day since an operation restored the use of his left hand.
Fisher was the victim of a fireworks accident that cost him his hand. He spent six years using a prosthetic hook until visiting Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
At the hospital, Fisher underwent 13 hours of surgery to have a donor’s hand attached where his left hand once was. It was the second operation of its kind in the country.
Just more than 17 months later, the surgery has proved successful.
Fisher has continued his therapy and fought off dangerous infection. He loves his newfound mobility and uses it for holing his son and riding his Harley.
